Recent rain dents Katie hopes

The recent rain has dampened Garrett Ahern's enthusiasm for a rematch with Vroum Vroum Mag as he prepares to saddle Our Katie in the Dawn Run Novice Chase at Limerick on Sunday.

The grey has proven a star for the Cork handler this season, wining twice at Thurles since the turn of the year.

She proved no match for the exciting Vroum Vroum Mag when the pair clashed over 2m1f at Cork in December but Ahern had fancied his chance of revenge before the ground turned testing.

Our Katie has improved for stepping up in trip since that effort, winning over three miles last time and previously over the 2m6f distance of Sunday's Grade Two.

"She's in great order but the ground has probably gone against us a bit," said Ahern.

"If it had been better ground and three miles we'd be mad keen to take on Vroum Vroum Mag but on that going I don't think we can make up the ground (from Cork).

"We would have been more excited if it had been a dry week.

"I think she's been improving this year with every run but she's just prone to a mistake on dead ground and unfortunately that's what we are back to."

Vroum Vroum Mag has swept all before her this season and bids to make it four in a row since her arrival from France.

She has looked a class apart against her own sex, but tackles this trip for the first time and makes her first start since being pulled out of an engagement at Naas last month due to lameness.

Down Ace, who chased home Our Katie at Thurles last month, returns to mares company having struggled in a decent handicap at Naas since.

She has a bit to find but was an impressive winner on testing ground at Down Royal previously.

Things came right for Perfect Promise at Thurles last time and she pulled away in style when beating a good yardstick in Carrigeen Kigelia.

This represents a significant step up in class now for Jimmy Mangan's charge but there looks more to come from her and she could get into the mix.
