Record money on offer at Galway A record prize fund of #1,144,000 is on offer for this year`s Galway Festival which runs from July 30th to August 5th inclusive, it was announced today.A total of 52 races, all of them sponsored, will be decided at the meeting which attracted 190,000 racegoers last summer.The feature events are the Compaq Galway Plate Handicap Chase of #100,000, the McDonogh Handicap on the Flat worth #100,000 and the Guinness Galway Hurdle of #110,000.Visitors to the meeting will benefit from the construction of the new under pass which will ease traffic flow by providing spaces for an extra 1,000 cars on the in-field, while there will be a total of four large screens to ensure spectators throughout the enclosures can see all the action.
