Redcar abandoned while York is now soft Redcar have announced that Saturday evening's meeting has been abandoned after inclement weather hit the track. The North-East of England has seen significant rainfall during the last 48 hours and having inspected at 12pm, the home straight was found to be waterlogged. With a further 7-10mm of rain anticipated during the day, clerk of the course, John Sanderson faced no alternative but to call off the six-race card. "I'm afraid we've taken the decision to abandon," said Sanderon. "We had 28mm of rain overnight and into the morning and that has left a small area of waterlogged ground in the straight which isn't safe. "All the forecasts we use suggest another heavy band of rain is coming which could drop up to 10mm and we couldn't take that. "If the sun was shining and the wind was blowing we'd have a chance of it drying up but it isn't." Racing goes ahead at York this afternoon but the going has changed to soft and there are a number of notable withdrawals across the card.
