Refreshment gets up close home to win nightcap for Fahey The Mark Fahey trained Refreshment came from well off the pace inside the final furlong to take the concluding AwardsandGifts.ie Handicap at Leopardstown. Having failed to reach the frame on seven previous starts, the Kodi Bear gelding drifted from 10/1 out to twice those odds at the off. Held up in rear by Gavin Ryan, the three-year-old had plenty to do as the runners entered the home straight. However, with first-time blinkers clearly aiding his cause, Refreshment ran on strongly from over 150 yards out to head Faoladh close home. Mark Fahey said: “That was tight but that’s the way to ride him. We thought he’d win before now and he’s let us down a few times but maybe he needs a galloping track like that. “Gavin was superb on him. He likes to be dropped in and hopefully he can build on that. “It’s great for Fergal Hogan and the Lennons from Carlow who are all involved in him. “He could jump a hurdle in time as he has plenty of size and scope.” Additional reporting by Alan Magee.
