Retirement talk dismissed by Murphy Timmy Murphy scotched any notion of retirement as the Grand National-winning jockey closes in on a return to competitive action. Murphy has been out of action since January of last year when he suffered a dislocated shoulder for a second time in three months. The 40-year-old rider has had cortisone injections since his latest operation and is pleased to be back riding work. He told Press Association Sport: "My injuries are getting there and I've started to ride out at home. "I'm about 60 to 70 per cent fit and my weight is very good. "I've just been doing a bit of running, a bit of walking and getting back into the gym. "The injury has improved in the last four months as it was a real struggle up to November, but it was a case of the less I did, the better it got. "I want to be riding as soon as I can. "Retirement thoughts have gone through my head as I'm not getting any younger, but I'm not ready to retire yet."
