Return to Dundalk sees Barretstown back to winning ways A three time winner at the track, including twice over course and distance, the Conor O'Dwyer trained Barretstown benefitted from a return to Dundalk when running out a game winner of Division ll of the Irishinjuredjockeys.com Handicap. Somewhat out of form on turf of late, the seven-year-old had dropped 11lb since his last run on the Polytrack back in January. Sitting second for the first mile of the contest. Billy Lee came through to head leader Timana early in the home straight. Strongly challenged by Galician Girl over a furlong out, the son of Red Jazz found plenty for pressure, keeping on well to win by one-and-a-quarter lengths. “He looked in great nick. He went to Clonmel last week and it was probably too soft for him but in these 60 races when you get in you kind of have to run,” said O’Dwyer. “We just freshened him up. Billy is dynamite on him, he just knows him so well and fills him with a bit of confidence. “He pitches up every year for one or two and pays his way.” The winner was full of beans leaving the parade ring and O’Dwyer added:- “Going out there he is a divil. If he doesn’t do that I’d nearly withdraw him as there is something wrong. “We’ll keep him on the go and might go to Down Royal next week for a 0-60 there. We’ll see what the ground is like, we have here all winter. “He’s a fun horse and keeps turning up every now and then. I wouldn’t mind another few more like him. “The owners only flew back from Italy and were in the airport tossing a coin about 6.40pm about whether they’d come and they didn’t. It’s not like them but they are delighted.” Additional reporting by Gary Carson.
