Ripsnorter makes most for 14/1 success at Downpatrick Danny Mullins made most of the running on 14/1 chance Ripsnorter to win the WillWeGo.com Handicap Hurdle at Downpatrick. Trained by Billy Lanigan for owner Hugh Laing, the five-year-old stayed on for pressure from the final hurdle to record a seven-length success over Ado McGuinness’ 7/2 chance Granlahan. It was the trainer’s fourth winner of the season. He Who Dares, the strong 11/8 favourite, was fortunate not to come down after a mistake the second-last hurdle when hot on the heels of the leaders. He couldn’t recover, and lost more ground when running short of room on the rail after the last. Lanigan said, “Danny is very lucky for us. Danny is a past master at those front-racing tactics. "This horse is owned by a great, long-standing friend of mine called Hugh Laing. He hasn't been very well of late, so I hope this gives him a boost. "He had (kept a bit under the bonnet). We ran him in a hood today and he probably wasn't as hard on himself. "We like Downpatrick, it has been lucky for us. "He'll jump a fence, so there's good days ahead."
