Dermot Weld declared himself pleased with Rite Of Passage following a piece of work after racing at Gowran Park on Sunday.

The talented but fragile nine-year-old has not run since winning the Qipco British Champions Long Distance Cup at Ascot last October.

That run at the Berkshire venue was just his second start after winning the Gold Cup there in 2010. He does hold an entry in this year's Long Distance Cup on October 19.

Pat Smullen's mount took a lead off Unaccompanied and finished upsides after a steady gallop over a circuit of the Gowran track.

Weld said: "Pat was very happy with Rite Of Passage. It's a day-to-day thing with this horse and we will see how he goes. We're happy with the way he went today."
