Rooster Set For Top Weight

Rooster Booster is set to carry top weight in the Stanleybet Handicap Hurdle at Haydock on Saturday after figuring among 31 entries yesterday.

Plans for the popular grey´s retirement were shelved after he took the Concept Hurdle from Self Defense at Sandown last month at the relatively advanced age of 11.

Trainer Philip Hobbs said: 'I´ve entered Rooster Booster and, all being well, he will run on Saturday.'

Some formidable opponents could line up for the #70,000 event, the first big hurdle race of the new season and formerly known as the Swinton Hurdle.

They include Steve Gollings´ Royal Shakespeare, who was going very well that day at Sandown when falling two flights from home.

The third home, Perouse, is one of two possibles from the Paul Nicholls yard, while old rival Martin Pipe has made three entries, Copeland, Fontanesi and Penny Pictures.

Genghis will be seeking a five-timer for Peter Bowen, while there are seven Irish-trained horses among the entries.
