Roundtree heads British challenge

Richard Hannon`s Roundtree is one of five British contenders set to be in action at the Curragh tomorrow night in the 16-runner Goffs £100,000 Challenge.

Roundtree ran a cracking race only last Friday to finish third in the Queen Mary Stakes at Royal Ascot, three-quarters of a length behind Queen`s Logic and Sophisticat.

She had previously finished second from a bad draw in the Listed Hilary Needler Trophy at Beverley.

And Hannon, who won the race with Tadwiga in 1997, said today that he was hopeful of a big run.

'They`ve had quite a lot of rain over there which is going to have left the ground yielding but I don`t think that will bother her,' he said.

'She`s a nice filly and I think she`s pretty good.

'She was a bit unlucky at Ascot as she was left with nothing to race with.'

Another runner is the Giles Bravery-trained Addo.

Bravery`s filly was only beaten five lengths behind David Loder`s Latin Lynx on her debut and the Newmarket handler is hopeful of a good show.

'We have every intention of running her there. She ran pretty well first time out and the winner ran an interesting race in the Queen Mary,' said Bravery.

'She`s a game little thing and she won`t be beaten for heart. It is an extra furlong and a half which, with the Curragh being stiff, is a bit of a worry but I`m sure we`ll ride her accordingly.

'Last year there were 11 runners and five or six hadn`t run before - this year looks a bit trappier. But if we`re in the cash at the end then we`ll be happy.'

The other British representatives are Kevin Ryan`s Frank Mor, and the Alan Berry-trained pair, Boom Or Bust and Shockland.

Berry said: 'These will be my first runners on Ireland and it will be nice if they could go and pick up some place money.

'Both of them are in very good form and we are pleased to have got John Egan for Shockland, he`s riding in Ireland on his holiday from Hong Kong.'
