Irish St Leger winner Royal Diamond could set himself up for a crack at the Gold Cup on Dubai World Cup night when he runs at Meydan on Saturday.

Tommy Carmody's seven-year-old will line-up in a Group Three over a mile and three-quarters, the same trip which saw him snatch a famous victory at the Curragh last September.

Johnny Murtagh will make the journey to ride him after making his comeback from injury at Dundalk last week.

"I'm just on my way to the airport now, it will be nice to get out there," said Murtagh.

"Royal Diamond has settled in well out there. He'll have been out there two weeks by the time of the race.

"He's Tommy's only horse out there so he's getting all the attention. He's a Leger winner so he deserves to go and the target is the Gold Cup.

"He's never run over two miles for us, but we think he'll get it as he stays well. It looks a nice race to start him off in."
