Rubette arrives late to land fillies handicap The Michael Butler-trained Rion Rubette lunged late to land the spoils in the Irish Stallion Farms EBF Fillies Handicap at Gowran, denying Joseph O’Brien a quick treble on the card. Everything appeared to be going to plan for 2/1 favourite Greydreambeliever as she travelled strongly into the straight and kicked a couple of lengths clear over a furlong out. She couldn’t hold the charge of Rion Rubette however as the New Bay filly overcame traffic a furlong out to get up close home for a half-length success, under Paddy Harnett. The 16/1 winner had finished mid-division in a sprint handicap on her return at the Curragh earlier this month. “She is very game, had a lovely run at the Curragh the last day and she was meeting some of today's rivals on better terms,” said the trainer’s son Michael Butler junior. "The handicapper has had great faith in this filly all along and was proved right today. It is great to win, we'll see how she is now and aim for a similar type of handicap."
