Ruby Stakes next up for Elleval David Marnane is targeting the Vincent O'Brien Ruby Stakes at Killarney with Elleval following his defection from last week's Desmond Stakes at Leopardstown. The three-year-old ran a fantastic race to fill the runner-up spot in the UAE Derby at Meydan in late March, but has failed to replicate that level of performance in two starts since returning to Ireland. Marnane is hoping for better from his charge at Killarney on August 28th, provided conditions are suitable. A statement posted on the County Tipperary handler's website, www.davidmarnaneracing.com, read: "Elleval, a late withdrawal from Thursday's Desmond Stakes at Leopardstown, will reappear in the Vincent O'Brien Ruby Stakes at Killarney. "The Kodiac gelding was scratched from the Group Three event after the going eased markedly due to rain at the Foxrock venue. "It was unfortunate for his connections but it was the correct decision, as Elleval would have toiled on the underfoot conditions. "Elleval needs a sound surface to demonstrate his ability as he showed during his successful winter stint in Dubai."
