Runner-up on her debut over flights at Listowel, the Charles Byrnes trained Run For Mahler went one better when winning the Thurles Mares Maiden Hurdle.

Prominent throughout under Philip Byrnes, the 8/11f headed leader Our Lucky Lady after the penultimate flight.

Strongly pressed by Qualimita at the last, a less than fluent jump by Run For Mahler gave the former a glimmer of hope.

However, the eventual winner picked up well on the run-in to score by a neck.

Charles Byrnes said: "She probably repeated her Listowel run as she beaten by probably a graded mare then. She got in under a few hurdles today but it is her first day racing over the new white hurdles, so hopefully that was the reason.

"I haven't looked at the programme but we could now have a look at getting black type before the good mares come out."
