Seventh on last month's debut at Leopardstown, Saga Gaga (14/1) took a big step forward to win Gowran's Irish Stallion Farms EBF Fillies Maiden over nine and a-half furlongs.

Always handy under Jamie Powell, the Lucky Vega filly went on two furlongs out and stayed on well down the stands' side to hold the late effort of Vanir by half-a-length.

Winning trainer Michael O'Callaghan reflected "She is a filly we liked a lot. She learned plenty the first day and even Jamie said she'll learn a bit more there today.

"She was still plenty green. When she got to the front, she didn't know what it was all about and he gave her a great ride.

"She's a filly that I can see maybe getting a mile-and-a-half. I'd say it was just talent that got her through today because she has a bit of talent.

"She wasn't in training at all as a two-year-old because she needed time. She is going to go on improving and she's won her maiden well there. If we could find a winners' race or something, take it step by step. Danny Leen (owner, Blackbox Bloodstock Limited) bred her, so it's a great day for him. It's his first winner as well."
