The Gordon Elliott-trained Samui justified good support in the Horse & Jockey Handicap Hurdle at Thurles when coming with a well-timed run to land the spoils.

Carl Millar produced his mount to challenge on the outer two from home and a good leap at the last propelled him to the front.

The 2/1 favourite (4/1 this morning) kept on strongly on the run-in and had a length-and-a-quarter to spare over the fast finishing Jazzy Matty

The winner had been placed twice in Listed company on the level last season and was last seen finishing down the field in the Cesarewitch at Newmarket.

Millar said afterwards:- "The ground was absolutely spot on for him and everything was fairly good.

“He settled well behind the leaders, who were going good and fast, and I was able to take him back and get him into a lovely rhythm.

"He jumped super everywhere and I gave him squeeze at the last and he came up. He was very good today."
