Sandown have been forced to call off Thursday’s Royal Artillery Gold Cup Day card due to a waterlogged track.

Following a 1pm inspection officials deemed there was no chance for the track to recover in time for racing, with more rain forecast on top of an already waterlogged track.

Sandown posted on their official X account: “Racing on Thursday 19th February for Royal Artillery Gold Cup Day has been abandoned after this afternoon’s inspection due to a waterlogged track.

“Further rain is expected between now and Thursday, so the opportunity for sufficient improvement of the track is not possible.”

Fairyhouse’s meeting on Monday also fell victim to the weather, and clerk of the course Brian Hamilton said via X: “Following 6mm of rain this morning, the track here at Fairyhouse is unfit for racing.”
