Sandown for The New One The New One is set to round off his season at Sandown on Saturday week after connections elected to bypass the QTS Scottish Champion Hurdle at Ayr. After finishing fourth behind Annie Power in the Champion Hurdle at Cheltenham last month, trainer Nigel Twiston-Davies admitted it was time to step his stable star up in distance. He tackled the Willie Mullins-trained mare once more in last week's two-and-a-half-mile Aintree Hurdle, but only made it as far as the fifth flight before suffering the first fall of his career. The Naunton handler considered a quick reappearance back over two miles this weekend, but The New One will instead go over a longer distance in the bet365 Select Hurdle on the final day of the jumps season. Twiston-Davies said: "He's absolutely fine. We just felt he would be better running at Sandown over two-mile-five (furlongs). He's been fine since Aintree. We're very happy with him. Sandown will be his last run (of the campaign)."
