Secretariat Stakes Contender Grand Central Sold To Race In Hong Kong

The regally-bred Grand Central, who is set to be partnered by Kieren Fallon in Saturday´s Grade 1 Secretariat Stakes at Arlington Park in Chicago, has been bought from Coolmore by the Hong Kong Breeders´ Club.

The three-year-old colt, by Sadler´s Wells out of Group 1 Coronation Stakes winner Rebecca Sharp, will continue to be trained at Ballydoyle by Aidan O´Brien for the rest of the year before he embarks on a racing career in Hong Kong.

Grand Central made a sensational winning debut in a Leopardstown two-year-old maiden last year, scoring by an easy four lengths, and finished a close third when meeting trouble in running in this season´s Group 2 Derrinstown Stud Derby Trial at the same course. He also finished runner-up in the Group 3 Leopardstown 2,000 Guineas Derby Trial and easily won his most recent start last month, again at Leopardstown.

Grand Central will be leased back to race in Coolmore´s colours in Saturday´s Grade 1 Secretariat Stakes, for which there are eight delclared runners and a race O´Brien won in 2000 with Ciro.

John McGrath, racing manager to the Hong Kong Breeders´ Club, said today: 'Saturday´s field at Arlington Park is very competitive and it will give Grand Central good international experience before he ships to Hong Kong for more Group races later on in his career.'
