Dessie Hughes is often the man to follow at Kilbeggan and he is double-handed in an intriguing contest for the Kilbeggan Patrons Club Hurdle on Friday evening.

Seefood, a winner over fences at the course on his last visit, bids to improve on his outing over timber at Roscommon last time.

The seven-year-old was third to Clara Mc Cloud in a similar conditions contest over a shorter trip then and, giving that rival 7lb again, he has a bit to find with Gordon Elliott's mare.

"He had a decent run last time but he'll have to improve from that and he might with the visors on again now," said Hughes. "He likes the track and he's in good form."

The stable also saddle another interesting contender in Irish National runner-up Golden Wonder, who gets weight from all his rivals in the three-mile contest.

The eight-year-old was far from disgraced when sixth in the Galway Plate last time and is on course for a shot at another big prize at Listowel later in the month.

"He looks well at the moment and we're hoping he'll run a good race. It's his prep race for the Kerry National," revealed the Curragh handler.

The Philip Fenton-trained Desertmore Stream is another who looks nicely treated at the weights as he tackles the trip for the first time since his point-to-point days.

The Gigginstown gelding stayed on well to score over two and a half at Galway but was unable to peg back the leaders tried over two-six at Killarney.

Draycott Place has been kept busy this summer but looks to have a bit to find with a few of his rivals, while Gimli's Rock and Muirhead also have something to prove.
