Seskin Flyer has proved a good money-spinner for Pat Carey this season and made it three wins in the space of just over two months in the Coral 100K Cash Cheltenham Smart Money Series Handicap Chase at Navan.

The eight-year-old gelding, successful at Carey’s local track in Thurles before following up four days later at the Limerick Christmas Festival, was sent off the well-backed 2/1 favourite in this six-runner affair. Shrewdoperator set the early pace but was consistently out-jumped by the winner down the back straight.

The writing looked on the wall as Veinard cruised to the front after the penultimate fence but the top-weight found little when asked for an effort after the last.

Seskin Flyer seized his opportunity under Barry Browne rallying under pressure on the run-in to score by half a length.

Shrewdoperator was a further eight and a half lengths back in third.

Carey said, “He's so genuine and so good to jump that he's always in the shake-up. He goes on any ground and it's great to win again with him. I said to the lads today that he shouldn't be winning but he could win.

“There is a race for him in Thurles three weeks from today and he'll go for that. There should be a hurdle in him as well. He ran badly in Clonmel but he wasn't right that day.”
