Seussical just got the better of Abbey Vale as he took the Goresbrigde 3yo Handicap under Wayne Lordan for David Wachman.

After three ordinary maiden efforts, the son of Galileo scored on his handicap debut at Dundalk in March, and he was sent off the 11/4 favourite to follow up this evening.

Having tracked the leaders for much of the contest he hit the front over a furlong out. He was soon pressed and joined by the Ger Lyons trained, Gary Carroll ridden Abbey Vale (7/1), but he battled on gamely to prevail by a nose at the line.

The front duo went three lengths clear of Carried in third under Shane Foley for Prunella Dobbs at 20/1.

David Wachman commented afterwards: "Wayne said that they went a slow gallop which didn’t suit. He is still very green but he galloped on satisfactorily.

"I thought the handicapper had been hard on him for his win at Dundalk but I’m glad to have been proved wrong."

The winner is out of Danehill Music, who won four times for Wachman including at Group 3 and Listed level.
