Shalapour Will Run In Derby

John Oxx has confirmed that Shalapour will take his place in the Group 1 Budweiser Irish Derby taking place at the Curragh on Sunday.

He will also saddle Hazarista in the Group 1 Audi Pretty Polly Stakes the previous day.

Oxx, fresh from two successes at York, is quietly confident of a big run in the 140th running of the ?1.3 million classic. 'Shalapour is very well and the race has a very open look to it now that Motivator does not run, ' said the Curragh based trainer, 'He is still improving and we will be hoping that he can run into a place at least.' The son of Darshaan will aim to give his owner HH The Aga Khan an unprecedented sixth victory in the race.

Hazarista, who also carries the colours of HH The Aga Khan, has been confirmed a definite starter for Saturday's Group 1 Audi Pretty Polly Stakes where she is set to clash with the Jim Bolger trained Alexander Goldrun. Oxx also confirmed that Mkuzi will line up in Saturday's At The Races Curragh Cup, while he will also saddle Karadak in the Listed Budweiser Celebration Stakes the following afternoon.

Jim Bolger reported Alexander Goldrun to be in sparkling form ahead of her big Curragh target, 'She is working very well and all is going to plan for the race, ' said the Coolcullen based trainer of the globe trotting filly who won Group 1 races in France and Hong Kong last year and was most recently placed in the Group 1 Singapore Airlines International Cup, 'I am likely to have plenty of runners over the three day festival and I am particularly looking forward to Alexander Goldrun and to Sandie, which runs in the Listed Blue Square Stakes on the opening evening meeting.'

Meanwhile, trainer Clive Britain stated that Bahar Shumaal was 'nailed on' to be supplemented at a cost of ?95,000 to the Budweiser Irish Derby at next Tuesday's final supplementary stage. 'The horse has been working extremely well at home and did his final piece of serious work yesterday in preparation for the Curragh classic.'
