Shanahan's Scottish raid pays off Trainer Pat Shanahan sent three horses to Hamilton this evening with Lara Carbonara obliging in the nine-furlong handicap at 9/1. She grabbed the lead over three furlongs out and although pressed in the final furlong, held on to score by a length and a quarter with Ronan Whelan doing the steering. Whelan was also on board Shanahan's Carbon Dating in the Listed Glasgow Stakes but the colt finished fifth. Starshaped and Whelan came home fifth in the Jordan Electrics Handicap. Northern trainer Lee Smyth brought Cheers Buddy over for the apprentice handicap. Irish jockey Samantha Bell, who is apprenticed to Richard Fahey in England, took the ride but the seven-year-old gelding finished last of the seven runners.
