Newcomer Sharanga was all the rage throughout the day for the Sean Cleary Memorial Fillies Maiden in Galway and she rewarded strong support in good style.

The 5/4 favourite (from 6/1 this morning) was positioned in mid-division and took closer order for Chis Hayes racing to the final quarter of a mile.

The jockey got into the drive position and his partner swept to the front in the straight. She began to move away from Dream On Baby inside the furlong pole and soon opened up to come in by three and three-quarter lengths.

Dream On Baby had to settle for second at 10/3 while Generous Support was another two and a-half lengths adrift in third at 5/1.

Dermot Weld said: "She did it nicely as I thought she would. She is a small filly, was a late foal, and took time to develop but there are good goods in small parcels!

"She is tough as teak, we'll see how she comes out of this and see how she progresses. She could be a lovely filly for the future, but her next race will decide plans.

"We won the two maidens at Navan on Saturday and this filly had been working just off those. I waited with those fillies as the ground has been very firm and they are typical Aga Khan-fillies who like a cut in the ground."
