Shawanda Tops Hardwicke Hopes

Godolphin's Shawanda heads an intriguing field of 14 left in Saturday's Hardwicke Stakes at the five-day confirmation stage.

The four-year-old filly ran in the colours of the Aga Khan last season and won two Group Ones before finishing sixth in the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe behind Hurricane Run, despite slipping on the bend.

That performance persuaded Godolphin to buy the filly and they could have a second runner in shape of Guadalajara, another purchase from France.

Also in the field is the globe-trotting Collier Hill, second in the Dubai Sheema Classic for Alan Swinbank on his last run.

Sir Michael Stoute has three representatives at this stage, Hard Top, Maraahel and Mountain High while Mark Johnston has left in Bandari, who won the race at York last year, and Crosspeace.

John Gosden has Day Flight in the race while John Dunlop's Munsef could try to atone for a disappointing run in France last time.

Enforcer, third behind Shirocco and Ouija Board in the Coronation Cup could line up for William Muir while 10-year-old The Whistling Teal could bid to follow-up his win in the Ormonde Stakes at Chester.

The field is completed by Admiral's Cruise and Self Defense.
