She’s A Fine Wine recorded a sixth career win when overcoming an eight-month absence to take the Irish Stallion Farms EBF Mares Handicap Hurdle at Downpatrick.

The Henry de Bromhead-trained mare was last seen winning over fences at Cork last October and proved friendless in the market drifting out from early morning quotes of 7/4 to score at 13/2.

Mike O’Connor’s mount led early on the run-in but was immediately challenged by You Make Me Smile

The pair fought out a driving finish with She’s A Fine Wine prevailing by half a length, with a gap of eight lengths back to Rockstown Girl in third.

O'Connor said, “We were hopeful coming here today that she seemed 'well in' on her hurdles rating. Everything went well through the race, and she stuck at it well.

“I saw her inside in the parade ring before we went out and she looked great. Hopefully, there will be a bit more improvement in her.

“Straightforward enough, I was probably a little bit worried I was going to get boxed in coming down the hill. Lucky enough, she had a bit of toe to get out. I just had to come wide, and I kicked on just from the last and she stayed going well.

"There was loads of pace down to the first and it kind of set the race up well for her. That was the kind of plan I had in my head."
