Sheridan snatches victory from jaws of defeat on Mister Adam Joey Sheridan had to be at his very best when getting the well backed Mister Adam up close home to gain a last gasp win in the Breast Cancer Ireland Handicap at Leopardstown. Third last time out in a Curragh maiden that has worked out well subsequently, the Gerard O'Leary trained colt was considered well treated on his handicap debut. Supported from 15/2 into 7/2, punters that took those odds have Sheridan to thank for getting paid. Mister Adam looked in trouble over two furlongs out, pushed along in sixth as the leaders entered the home straight. Running green over a furlong out, Mister Adam appeared to be well beaten, as Booklight and Berto Ramirez battled it out in front. Responding well to his rider, Mister Adam went third over 150 yards out, as Nuit went second in chase of Booklight., with Berto Ramirez fading into fourth. As the eventual winner and Nuit closed on Booklight, the three flashed past the line together. The subsequent photo showed that Sheridan had got his mount home by a short head from Nuit, with Booklight a neck further back in third. Ger O’Leary said: “We were worried about the ground. He didn’t handle it in Dundalk but I heard reports earlier that the ground was beautiful, no excuses, so we were happy enough to run away. “He had a good blow there, so I’d say he wasn’t quite one hundred per cent but delighted to get it by a shorthead. “He’ll get further in time. “He’s still a full horse and is very well bred. “I’d like to thank Mags O’Toole who purchased him in Tattersalls.” Additional reporting by Alan Magee.
