Shooting raised in the weights

Shooting Light must defy a rise in the weights if he is to complete a rare Cheltenham big-race double on Saturday week.

He has been put up 12lb by the chase handicapper since his win in last month`s Thomas Pink Gold Cup and figures on 10st 9lb in weights published today for the Tripleprint Gold cup.

Only Pegwell Bay in 1988 and Senor El Betrutti nine years later have won the course`s two big pre-Christmas showpieces in the same season.

Shooting Light will be worse off at the weights this time with each of his three closest pursuers, namely Foly Pleasant (10st 5lb), Exit Swinger (10st 4lb) and Cadougold (8st 13lb).

He and the two last-named are among trainer Martin Pipe`s 13-strong team for the Stg£100,000 Tripleprint, which also includes Cyfor Malta (11st 1lb) and Upgrade (11st).

Paul Nicholls` four entries range from Tingle Creek Chase-bound top-weight Fadalko (12st) to Cyfor Malta`s recent Newbury victim Young Devereaux (9st 2lb).

Others engaged include the ex-Australian Logician and the progressive northern chaser Banker Count who both figure on the minimum weight of 10st.
