March’s Gold Cup-winning jockey Mark Walsh completed his best ever monthly tally today, having landed Navan’s Boyle Sports Money Back At Cheltenham Handicap Hurdle on JP McManus’ homebred Showurappreciation (4/6f).

Out of Round Of Applause, Showurappreciation travelled strongly throughout today’s race and scored easily by four lengths from St Denis’s Well .

Walsh, who began riding in July 2002 and turns 40 next month, was notching a 14th success of February, with four of those coming in Grade 1s. That total betters his previous best of 13 during May 2015, and comes as he leaves his job as McManus’ principal retained rider from next May 1.

Showurappreciation’s trainer Jonathan Sweeney said "The race came up and it was a lovely opportunity, so we said we would have a go, although was it a weak race? I suppose it cut up with the heavy ground and everything, but he did it well.

"I suppose we are finding out as we go. We will probably go back chasing."
