Shu Lewis outlines her potential

Monica Dowdall Blake looks to have a real prospect on her hands as Shu Lewis followed up her Punchestown Festival win with an impressive win in Wexford’s bumper.

The five-year-old mare, again ridden by Ms Dowdall Blake’s niece Linzi Dowdall, hit the front inside the last furlong and kept on stoutly for a two and a half length decision.

She wasn’t unfancied today as her backers forced her price down from 6/1 to 4/1 on the off.

7/4 favourite from the powerful John Kiely yard took the runner-up berth with Pharney Lady four lengths away in third at 5/1.

Henry de Bromhead’s Smiling Lady had an eventful time of it as she unshipped Davy Roche and ran free at the start. Roche’s saddle slipped during the race and after the mare had finished fifth, she came down after the race and again parted company with Roche.
