Sign From Above bagged his second win over jumps with a game effort in the William Hill Each Way Extra Challenge Series Handicap Hurdle at Gowran Park.

The Sea The Stars gelding had been fourth in a Cesarewitch trial at Newmarket on his last outing and went to post a well-backed 3/1 shot on his return to jumping.

Sam Ewing ’s mount leaped to the front two from home in the two-and-a-half mile contest and dug deep when challenged by Arctic Flame going to the last.

Peter Fahey ’s charge stayed on stoutly to the line to record a three-parts-of-a-length victory.

“He very seldom runs a bad race, he’s always running respectably,” said Fahey.

“That was his first time wearing cheekpieces over hurdles and I think that helped him out today.

“It probably wasn’t the strongest of races, we were considering whether to run him or not with the ground but he ran grand.

“He’s consistent but struggles a bit to get his head in front. Hopefully he’ll go on from there and he’ll keep tipping away in handicaps.

“I think once the ground isn’t too tacky he gets away with it. It’s definitely loose out there with the rain that came.

“He might go back on the Flat now and then we could give him another run over hurdles before the real winter ground.”
