Simenon bids to gain compensation for a fine second in the Gold Cup when he lines-up for the Weatherbys Hamilton Insurance Lonsdale Cup at York on Friday.

The six-year-old, Willie Mullins trained gelding, was only beaten a neck by The Queen's filly Estimate at Royal Ascot.

A field of seven has been declared for the extended two-mile Group Two with Estimate an absentee, as expected, after she failed to please trainer Sir Michael Stoute in the build-up to the race.

Godolphin are represented by the Saeed bin Suroor-trained pair of Ahzeemah, runner-up in the Goodwood Cup, and Colour Vision.

The latter last graced the winner's enclosure after the Gold Cup in 2012 and was only seventh in the Goodwood Cup on his latest start.

Glen's Diamond was well beaten in that race but did win the Yorkshire Cup on this track in May for local trainer Richard Fahey.

Times Up landed this prize 12 months ago when with John Dunlop, who handed the stayer over to his son, Ed, on his retirement last season.

The eight-year-old Askar Tau, trained by Marcus Tregoning, attempts to turn back the years having taken the 2009 renewal of this race while John Gosden's Caucus disappointed in the Goodwood Cup after winning the Coral Marathon at Sandown.
