The Willie Mullins-trained Simenon won his second race of the week at Royal Ascot with a dazzling display in the Queen Alexandra Stakes.

The five-year-old was also securing Ryan Moore the top rider of the meeting award and did so in some style.

Always travelling strongly, the only moment of concern for his supporters came when he was short of room at the top of the home straight but Moore found the gap at the right time and his partner surged to the front.

The 11-4 favourite soon settled matters and went on to beat Shahwardi (33-1) by seven lengths with Romeo Montague (66-1) running a huge race in third.

William Buick finished fourth aboard Zuider Zee and had he managed a place better he and not Moore would have been top jockey after a dramatic and unforgettable week.

Mullins said: "You always hope you might get a winner here and it's great when you do, but to get two at the same meeting is even better.

"Much of the credit goes to his lad, Martin, who has done a fantastic job getting him to eat and drink, and while he was free for Ryan on Tuesday, he was so much more settled this time. We'll keep going on the Flat with him."
