Simenon is reported to have taken his recent Australian debut in his stride and remains on course for next month's Emirates Melbourne Cup at Flemington.

Willie Mullins' charge finished a narrow third behind ex-British runner Sea Moon in the Herbert Power Stakes at Caulfield last week, beaten just three-quarters of a length after not enjoying the best of runs.

Mullins was satisfied with that effort and is hoping his runner will now make the cut for the Group One heat on November fifth.

"He's in good form and has taken his race well," he said.

"He still needs seven to come out to get a run but they tell me it looks odds on he will get in but you never know."
