J J Slevin was seen at his very best when delivering Mr Percy from off the pace to win the Grade 2 Paddy Kehoe Suspended Ceilings Novice Hurdle at Fairyhouse.

A smart Flat handicapper with an official rating of 88, the Joseph O'Brien trained gelding hasn't always convinced since switching his attention to jumping.

Held up in mid division here, Mr Percy was anchored on the inside rail as Wingmen led under Danny Gilligan.

The latter still held sway approaching three out, where Mr Percy dived at the hurdle with Slevin doing well to maintain the partnership.

As Wingmen weakened early in the straight, Mr Percy moved third behind Fleur In The Park and Ballygunner Castle The latter pair appeared to have the race between them on the run to the final flight.

However, having quickened up smartly to throw down his challenge at the last, Mr Percy was again untidy. Despite that error, he soon recovered to get back on terms and lead close home for a cosy three-quarter-length success.

“It’s dry ground and he didn’t mind it,” said Slevin.

“He travelled very well, he missed the last and he’s done well to win.

“He’s not a bad horse, he’s a decent horse on the Flat. It was a nice bit of placing by the lads so it’s great.”
