Slevin seen to good effect in the 'double green' colours JJ Slevin cemented his new retainer with owners Simon Munir and Isaac Souede when giving Mistergif a well-judged ride to land the Irish Stallion Farms EBF Beginners Chase at Fairyhouse. The 7/2 chance still had plenty to do in fourth early in the straight before making ground after two out. Stablemate Tullyhill led approaching the last but the 6/4 favourite was quite deliberate at that final obstacle while Mistergif met it on a perfect stride. Slevin’s mount was soon in front and quickened up well to beat Tullyhill by a length and three-quarters. Asian Master couldn’t find any extra in the closing stages a further five and a half lengths back in third while Westport Cove, who cut out much of the running, made it a 1-2-3-4 for the Willie Mullins yard. Slevin said, “I’m delighted. I was delighted to be up on him, and it was a good performance. “He jumped well bar the third last, and that was probably my fault. Other than that he was very good, he settled well. “He has a bit of class, and is a nice horse.” Additional reporting by Gary Carson
