Matt Smith has his horses in good form and is hopeful that Final Boss can develop into a nice three-year-old for him next year.

Down the field on his first start at Down Royal last month, the Invincible Army colt showed much more when a never-nearer third in a six-furlong maiden at the Curragh on Thursday.

"We think he is a real nice horse," said the Kilmessan Co Meath trainer.

"He was very green the first day and still fairly green at the Curragh.

"I think six furlongs is more his trip, maybe when he sharpens up a bit and the penny drops with him. Or else he could go up to seven.

"Robbie (Colgan) said he kind of only got going in the last furlong at the Curragh"

When asked if he will have another run before the season ends, he replied: "We'll see what we do with him, he's a nice horse and I think he is going to improve more again.

"He'll absolutely be a horse for next year."
