Smullen in demand for Ninjago ride Paul Midgley is keen to recruit Pat Smullen for the ride aboard Ninjago in the Wokingham Stakes at Royal Ascot on Saturday. Although winless in over a year, the six-year-old has run some fine races in defeat, most notably finishing third in last season's Ayr Gold Cup. The Mount Nelson gelding has since left Richard Hannon's yard to join Midgley, for whom he made a promising start when fourth at York last month. Midgley said: "He came through his final proper piece of work very well and, touch wood, he's in great form. "We're quite keen to get Pat Smullen, if we can."
