Soffia (3/1) collared Abstraction in the closing stages to land the five furlong handicap at Down Royal for Eddie Lynam for the third year in a row.

Abstraction made a bold bid to land the spoils but came back to Soffia and went down by two and a quarter lengths at 5/1. Nigg Bay the 9/4 favourite, was a length and a half further back in third.

Jockey Robbie Downey said: "The horses are starting to hit form now so hopefully thats the first of a couple of winners now.

"I thought for the horses she beat in the Curragh it was probably a high enough mark but she coped with it today anyway. She was even a little bit green today.

"They go a good gallop (down the hill) and you cross the road and then you have the elbow as well. It takes a horse that knows its job.

"Yeah (I thought I would catch Abstraction), she just took her time to get rolling. We went a good gallop and Abstraction came back to us."
