Soft ground is good enough for Meade and Bobby McGee

Having his first start since July, Bobby McGee (7/2) made light of that layoff to take the Irish Stallion Farms EBF Median Auction Maiden at Gowran Park.

Never far from the pace under Adam Caffrey, Anthony O’Gorman’s gelded son of Mayson led two furlongs out and, despite drifting left in the closing stages, posted a cosy three-parts of a length success over Jamestown with the pair nicely clear of the remainder.

“His form was good. He was a cheeky colt, and gelding him was a big help," said winning trainer Noel Meade.

“He’d done plenty. Even though he’d never ran on soft, he has big feet and he’d worked quite well on it, so I was happy coming.

“I didn’t really think any further than trying to win with him and we’ll see what the handicapper does now.

“I don’t think a mile will be a problem for him and he’s looks like a nice horse. He goes on good ground too, but he certainly handled that.”
