Sole Power charged up for Abbaye bid Sole Power attempts to make it fifth-time lucky in the Prix de l'Abbaye at Longchamp on Sunday. The popular sprinter showed he was as good as ever when winning the Flying Five at the Curragh last time out. Having run in this race four times, a third place in 2011 behind Tangerine Trees is his best effort. "He did a bit of work on Tuesday morning and I was delighted with him," trainer Eddie Lynam told At The Races. "He deserves a change of fortune in this race. He's gone close once and has run respectably in it a couple of times. It's a race I'd love to get on his CV. "I don't think the ground will be as soft as it usually it over there, it should be somewhere between good and good to soft, which will be fine." Maarek is a former winner of the race and while he used to be seen as something of a mudlark, he won the Beverley Bullet on good ground this season. "We're pretty happy with his draw in two, he's always wanted cover," said trainer Evanna McCutcheon. "He's got here in good form but unfortunately the weather is splitting stones at the moment. There's not much soft in the ground but the stick is going in a few inches, I can't see there being any jar in it. "He's never run a bad race here and he's in good form. All we need now is another Jamie Spencer masterclass."
