Sole Power for Eddie Lynam & Johnny Murtagh had to settle for second in the Group 1, Al Quoz Sprint at Meydan as the Australian trained mare Ortensia swooped late to take the spoils for trainer Paul Messara with Craig Williams aboard.

The 11/2 favourite Sole Power looked the likely winner for a stride before the winner ran on strongly from last to claim the big pot.

Hong Kong veteran Joy And Fun finished back in third on the inner while Robert Cowell's Monsieur Joe ran a career-best in fourth position.

Sole Power's jockey Johnny Murtagh said: "I thought I had it when my horse quickened but then the filly came flying by."

Brett Doyle, on Joy And Fun, said: "I sat back at the gates and missed the start. Otherwise I would have been second."

Pat Cosgrave, who was fourth on Robert Cowell's Monsieur Joe after being up with the pace throughout, said: "I was drawn on the inside which I think they watered a little more than the rest of the track.

"I'm not making excuses, though. This horse has done the team proud."
