Solution lands the Million after enquiry Real Solution won the 31st running of the Arlington Million in Chicago after Mike de Kock's The Apache was disqualified and placed second. De Kock had been at Newbury to see Soft Falling Rain run in the Hungerford Stakes and, while he may not have been too disappointed when that race ended in defeat, this will surely have been a bitter pill to swallow. The Apache had finished fourth in the Sky Bet York Stakes in July on his first run since Dubai World Cup night and comfortably turned the form around with the re-opposing Grandeur who was sent off favourite for this 10 furlong contest. Last year's winner Little Mike broke well and was rushed to the head of affairs although Joseph O'Brien was soon harrying for the lead aboard Mull Of Killough. Little Mike had seen off his challenge at the top of the stretch but was soon enveloped by the chasing pack as The Apache hit the front at the furlong pole. Real Solution gave chase all the way to the wire but finished a neck adrift of Christophe Soumillon's mount with Side Glance running a fine race for Andrew Balding in third. Jeremy Noseda's Grandeur was sent off favourite and finished off the race strongly in seventh to leave connections wondering what might have been but for being drawn widest of all in 13. He was followed home by fellow raiders Mull Of Killough, Guest Of Honour and Hunter's Light. No sooner had the result of the photo been called than an objection by rider Alan Garcia was announced. Replays showed that The Apache, with Soumillon using his whip in his left hand, came off the rail to bump Real Solution a couple of times before reaching the wire just in front. The stewards wasted little time in reversing the places of the first two home to put the cap on a fine day for owners Ken and Sarah Ramsey who earlier in the day won the Grade One Secretariat at Arlington with Admiral Kitten and the Grade One Sword Dancer at Saratoga with Big Blue Kitten.
