Song For Whoever was the heavily backed (morning 7/4, show 5/6 — 8/15f) winner of Dundalk's Join On Instagram @dundalk_stadium Race today, notching a first 2023 success for rookie trainer John O'Donoghue.

The son of Galileo Gold was an easy maiden winner in December and today, under Bill Lee, impressively defeated six rivals, including three winners, when scoring by 3.25 lengths from Dynamite Katie

O'Donoghue, who began training at John Oxx's Currabeg Stables last year and sent Pearling Path to a Royal Ascot runner-up placing, said "Song For Whoever is improving with each run and I'm looking forward to giving him a little bit of time now and just aiming at the turf. He's done his job so far.

"He has come into the race very cleanly there and quickened up as you would like. He has put distance between a couple of winners which is great and Billy said he is professional. He rode him over seven (furlongs, in October) and suggested going back in trip.

"I probably misread his debut, he was a bit green and was learning on the job. He has shown he is a quick horse and is getting more professional."
