Song Not Certain To Tackle Lockinge James Fanshawe has warned that his star miler Soviet Song may miss the Juddmonte Lockinge Stakes at Newbury on May 14 in favour of a trip to Ireland the following weekend. The Group One contest had been mooted as a starting point for the five-year-old but she may instead wait for the Ridgewood Pearl Stakes at the Curragh on May 21. 'I never said that the Lockinge was the plan, I said it was an option,' Fanshawe told At The Races. 'The Lockinge is an option or we could wait for the Ridgewood Pearl Stakes at the Curragh, which is a race she won last year. 'I´ll just play things by ear. 'It will be her first run of the year and it is going to be a long year for her. Long-term I´d really love to have her right for the Breeders´ Cup this year.' Soviet Song hit a rich vein of form last summer and rattled up a hat-trick of Group One wins, including the Sussex Stakes at Goodwood in July. 'She did her first bit of work on Wednesday after having a lot of time off over the winter and had a little spin up the Limekilns yesterday,' Fanshawe continued. 'I am very happy with her. She is moving fairly well and is thoroughly enjoying her training.' ? PA Sport
