Third over hurdles at Roscommon earlier in the week, the Pat Fahy trained Spanish John went two places better when reverting to the Flat to win the concluding SIS Supporting Irish Racing Handicap (Div II) at Bellewstown.

Always in the first half dozen under jockey Billy Lee, the seven-year-old gelding moved third over three furlongs out.

Pushed along to take second two furlongs from home, the 9/2 chance was ridden to head Dont Do Dramas before keeping on strongly to win by three-and-three-quarter lengths.

Trainer Pat Fahy said: "He was at his ease all through the race and enjoyed it, plenty of room you see, and the ground was a big help to him.

"He got it (ground) in Clonmel, but two miles probably too far on that ground, but a mile and a-half on soft (suits).

"Third in Roscommon, but he had been running well. Nearly all the times he has been trying and staying on.

"It was just to get it together, get the win."
