Special win for Gifford Specialagent Alfie delivered Nick Gifford's first winner since the death of his much-loved father Josh in the February Conditional Jockeys' Handicap Hurdle at Sandown. Josh Gifford, one of the masters of the training profession, passed away a fortnight ago and the yard were within a whisker of that elusive success on several occasions in the last week. Specialagent Alfie (8-1), who was stepping out of novice company for the first time, was given an astute front-running ride from the experienced Tom Cannon to score by an easy six lengths. "We've got there," said Gifford. "He was too keen a couple of times at Plumpton and Tom did very well as he got a soft lead. "He's only a frame of a horse and won't be busy this season."
