Speciosa Ready To Rumble

Pam Sly is hoping Speciosa's liking for Newmarket, together with a plum draw, will prove a big factor in the Stan James 1000 Guineas tomorrow.

The daughter of Danehill Dancer has won her only two starts over the Rowley Mile ? landing the Rockfel Stakes last October and the Nell Gwyn Stakes on her reappearance last month, although she hung markedly left towards the stands rail that day.

'She must like the track as she has won both her races there,' said the Peterborough trainer.

'I can't believe the draw (three). It is nearly perfect. With the stalls being in the middle we would have been a bit worried if she had been drawn 10, 12 or 13, and so would some of the other runners, it could have been a disaster but we have been very lucky,' Sly told At The Races.

'I've no idea why she hangs so much, she doesn't do it at home. It's only when she works upsides something that she plays up. I don't know if it's intimidation or what.

'Her pedigree suggests the trip should be no problem, there are plenty of staying influences in it.

'She's been fine since she won the Nell Gwyn. She messed about in front of the TV cameras the other day but I think that was because it disrupted her routine.

'We hadn't done a great deal with her before the Nell Gywn so it did come as a little bit of a surprise.

'If the rain does come that would be no problem to her as she won the Rockfel on good to soft. I just wish the race was today.'
