Speckled Meadow keeps Hassett in the hunt Speckled Meadow's 16/1 victory in the concluding ten-furlong handicap at Naas put the tin hat on a difficult afternoon for punters at the Kildare venue. There were 33/1, 22/1 and 25/1 winners of three of the previous four races on the card. Wayne Hassett produced the eight-year-old to lead over two furlongs out and she went away to post a three and three-quarter lengths victory over Thatwilldoso. Joint-second in last year's apprentice title race, Hassett is very much in contention again and this 20th winner of the season brings him level with Wesley Joyce and two behind leader Robert Whearty. Carrigtwohill Co Cork-based owner/trainer Don Browne said “She stayed the trip well. I also entered her in the apprentice race here and it was deciding then on what the options were for jockeys. "We got Wayne for this race off bottom weight, so we said we’d take our chance. “I have to thank Terence O’Brien as we use his gallop at six every morning. We have three horses in training and this is our hobby. “This is a dream for us, it’s brilliant. “She doesn’t like Dundalk, so we’ll try and get one more run into her.” Additional reporting by Alan Magee
